Texas Holdem Tips: Best Starting Hands

While Texas Holdem is pretty easy to learn like other Poker games, it is not so simple to actually play and win. Texas Holdem Poker doesn't play fast like Blackjack does and requires thought and planning.

Once you know the basic rules of Texas Holdem, your next task is to know when to play and when to withdraw (fold). Don't make the mistake of playing any hand you have. Fold, fold, fold, not always, but often!

Also, even if your hole cards are good, the first card turned up (the flop) may add nothing to them. In that case, you'll be wise to fold.

Now for the good Texas Holdem hands.

BEST TEXAS HOLDEM STARTING HANDS

- High Ranking Pairs. This means two Jacks, two Aces, of different suits. The highest ranking cards are (from lowest to highest), Jack, Queen, King and Ace. You're lucky if you get a starting hand like this. May possibly get Three of a Kind, Four of a Kind, etc. Play this hand.

- Ace with a High Card of Same Suit. Great Texas Holdem starting hand. This makes a high Flush and Straight Flush. If there's a blue moon and you're extremely lucky, you may even have a Royal Flush! Play this hand.

- Ace with a High Card of Different Suit. This is another playable hand. A Straight is possible here. Also, the Ace needs a stronger kicker or second card in case another player has an Ace too. The second card or kicker will act as a tiebreaker. So a starting hand like this is valuable.

- Two Court Cards of Same Suit. Very good hand that makes a high Flush or Straight possible. Play them.

- Two Court Cards of Different Suits. Also playable. Best if one card is a King.

- Court Card with Ten of Same Suit. This Texas Holdem hand is very playable. Flush, Straight and a High Pair are possible here. Play this hand.

These are the best Texas Holdem hands to start with. We caution beginners again to make use of the fold more often. Further, don't over-estimate an Ace. An Ace alone won't do you much good if it doesn't have a high kicker like a King.

Of course, playing with these hands do not ensure you will win. In Texas Holdem, even the best possible starting hands can get beaten. But if you're a beginner, it will help a lot if you play with these hands first until you know better.
